Silicone is the new Gold
Fall 2021 not only threw the omicron variant at us, it’s also when Silicone became scarce - driving up the price for this material in some instances by up to 300%!
Silicone is diverse in its uses – computer chips, concrete, glass, and car parts in its rough form. Once purified, silicone is used for medical devices, deodorants, and personal care items. Its popularity has made it expensive, especially with its supply depleting.
While international plans are in place to mine for more sources of raw silicone, there is no guarantee that these efforts will come online until 2023, making 2022 a pricey year for silicone.
